Letter to the school council
Dear council members, If I could change one place in our school, I would start with the entrance hall. It is not the most exciting answer. We already have a sports field and a computer room, while the hall seems like a place to pass through. However, some pupils spend nearly an hour there while they wait for the village bus.
Our first idea was a large screen showing films. Then we talked to the people who actually wait there. Some wanted to finish homework; others wanted to talk or simply rest. A screen would serve one group and disturb another. If we divided the hall with a low bookcase, we could create two areas without building a wall.
There are practical questions. Who would move the furniture for school events? Would the bookcase block a safe route to the exit? Could the cleaners reach the floor easily? We have not answered these questions yet. Our drawing is a starting point, not a promise.
I suggest a one-week trial with furniture we already own. We would invite feedback on paper as well as online, because an online poll alone might miss some pupils. Success would mean that different people could use the space comfortably, not that everybody chose the same activity.
If the trial failed, we would still learn something useful before spending money. Could the council help us arrange a meeting with the caretaker? Yours sincerely, Maya
