The Wednesday experiment
My name is Lena, and I usually spend Wednesday afternoons at the school art club. My friend Max plays basketball at the same time, so we hardly ever walk home together. This month our school is preparing a community evening. The art club is making signs, and the basketball team is helping to arrange the hall. For three weeks, we are working in the same room.
At first, we try to do everything after lessons without a plan. Someone cannot find the paint, and another person is waiting for a ladder. Max suggests a simple timetable. We list three jobs, choose a person for each job and include a ten-minute break. We do not plan every minute.
The change helps, but our first timetable is not perfect. On the second Wednesday, a delivery arrives late. We move one job to Friday instead of missing our break. I learn that a useful plan can change. Now I still enjoy art, and Max still prefers sport, but we understand each other's work better. A shared project gives us something new to talk about on the way home.
