We compared two routes for a class visit to a local exhibition. Both routes were about one kilometre long, so the first was as long as the second. However, length was not our only criterion. Our group included people with different needs, so we examined those details carefully. We did not simply choose the route that looked prettier in a photograph. We checked the current entrance information and discussed the options with the responsible adult.
In the end, we chose the street route. It was not better in every possible way, and another group might make a different choice. It was suitable for our particular visit because it met our main requirements. A fair comparison explains both the chosen criteria and the limits of the conclusion.
