Our group tested two sets of instructions for a paper model. The first set was shorter and looked easier. However, it missed an important folding step. Three classmates tried it and made different shapes. The second set had one extra sentence and a clear picture. Pupils followed it more accurately. We did not decide that the first group was less clever. We examined the instructions instead. Then we revised the first set and tested it again. This time, the pupils worked more confidently and asked fewer questions. One pupil worked more slowly than the others but noticed a mistake in our picture. That careful observation helped everyone. We learned that a useful comparison needs a clear purpose: speed, accuracy and clarity are different things.
