A new pupil asked our class how to get from the bus stop to the school library. We drew the shortest route first. It crossed a busy road away from the crossing and used some steep steps. Then we looked at the map again. A slightly longer route followed the pavement, passed the bakery and crossed at the traffic lights. The library entrance on that side had a ramp. We chose this route for our welcome guide because it was more useful for different visitors. Our map showed the crossing and the correct entrance clearly. We also walked the route with an adult to check the signs. A neat map is helpful, but its directions must work in real life.
