Our class is making a wall of postcards about places. Each pupil chooses a city, checks a few facts and adds a personal comment. Eva writes about Moscow, the capital of Russia. She draws a river and a park, but she does not try to include every famous building. Her cousin visited the city last summer and enjoyed a science museum. Ben chooses London, the capital of the United Kingdom. He finds a picture of a red bus and writes that people use different kinds of transport there. Our teacher asks us to separate facts from opinions. 'London is in the United Kingdom' is a fact. 'This is the most exciting city' is an opinion that needs a clear point of view. We read our postcards in pairs and ask questions. A good question can help the writer notice something unclear. Next week we are going to add postcards about smaller towns, because interesting places are not only capitals.
